Weekend Getaways Less Than 2 Hours From Tacoma
Grab your snacks and get your playlists ready, we’re going on a road trip!
Whether you've got a three-day weekend coming up that you want to take advantage of or you're looking for a getaway from Tacoma, we have some suggestions to make the most of your weekend trip.
Spend a few hours trailing through the exhibits in the Seattle Art Museum or the Museum of History and Industry. The complete list of great eateries, breweries, pubs, and local dives is expansive and ever-changing thanks to Seattle's love of food and fun, so you can pick new places to eat every time you visit the city.
2. Mount Saint Helens
While not as intricately linked to the hearts of Tacomans, Mount St. Helens is notable for being one of the remaining active volcanoes in the mainland of the United States.
3. Vashon Island
If there's one type of seafood that reigns supreme in Tacoma, it's the Dungeness crab. Grab a crab fishing license in the summertime, and you can hop on the ferry to Vashon Island, tour through the vineyards and distilleries for a perfect bottle of spirits, then head to one of the many waterfronts to throw your crab pots in the water.
The Snoqualmie Falls view is open and free to the public from dawn until dusk, and you can take a hike through the trail and find a place for an afternoon picnic when you've saturated your spirit with the sounds of the waterfall.
5. Castle Rock
The expansive national park that surrounds the prominent piece of snow-covered rock is less than a two-hour drive away from the city borders. While the mountain is the unquestioned main attraction, there are over 200,000 acres of parkland surrounding it. You can hike through the trails for multiple day trips or try to climb your way to the top of the mountain.
